If you own a dishwasher unit, it is absolutely essential that you become familiar with dishwasher parts and the repair basics for these units. In today's fast paced world, more and more
individuals are starting to consider the dishwasher an essential when it comes to kitchen appliances. While these units are not present in every home, it is likely that within a couple of years, they will be considered a necessity. It is important to understand that if you own a machine of this type that basic maintenance and repair may be needed. In this guide, I will introduce you to some repair basics as well as the dishwasher parts that will be needed to effectively handle any of these repair issues.
Repair Basics
There are many common issues that may occur when it comes to the overall maintenance of your dishwasher unit. The following represents some of the most common complications that you may find yourself experiencing with your product:
Failure to Function
If you try to start the dishwasher that you own, and nothing seems to happen, you are facing a failure to function. The first appropriate troubleshooting steps include ensuring that the unit is plugged into an electrical outlet. If you find that it is, the next area that you will want to visit is the breaker box located in your home. When you open the box, you will want to see if any of the breakers have "popped". This will be evident if the breaker for the dishwasher outlet is in the center position, or in the "off" position. If the breaker is not the issue that is occurring, it is important to check out the switches that are part of the dishwasher itself. Typically, there will be a switch that allows the machine to operate on the door of the unit, a switch that permits for the settings associated with the unit, as well as a switch that dictates the time that the unit runs. Naturally, if any of these seem to need replaced, this will need to be done. If not, you may be facing an internal electrical complication.
Drainage Complications
Drainage complications are often experienced when it comes to dishwasher units. One of the first areas of interest should be the air gap that is typically located near the faucet as an attachment. In many cases, food particles may block this area. If this occurs, the clog will complicate the draining process altogether. The next area that you will want to focus on includes the hose that actually drains the water from the unit into the appropriate location. You should check for any type of obstructions. If present, these should be eliminated. Much like an automobile, many units have a belt that is attached to a pump that induces drainage. It is important to inspect this belt unit to determine if it has been broke or damaged in any way. If it has, attempt to replace it and test run the unit to determine if it has resolved the issue.
There are many common complications that may occur when it comes to your dishwasher. These two problems noted are among the most popular when it comes to maintenance and repair. By learning what troubleshooting steps are required to effectively resolve an issue, you will need to become familiar with the unit. Then, you will know what dishwasher parts are required to eliminate the issue.
Dishwasher Parts
Drain Hose - This particular hose is an essential component when it comes to draining water from the dishwasher to the area where you designate the water to be eliminated. Uninstalling and reinstalling this particular component is relatively simple and the product itself can typically be purchased inexpensively.
Air Gap - This dishwasher part is located near where there is an attachment near the faucet of the unit is located. It helps to move debris from the unit to an appropriate location. In many cases, this part can be removed and cleaned. However, it may require a completely new piece if the original becomes damaged in any way.
Pump Assembly - The pump assembly is a common dishwasher section that is essential for the functioning of the system. This usually includes a pulley system which is attached to a pumping unit that controls the ebb and flow of the water that is required for the unit.
Heating Element - This is a component that is built into the unit in order to warm the water that is required to appropriately clean the dishwashing unit.
Switches - Switches are responsible for many tasks in the dishwasher. One may inform the system that the door is closed, and one may allow you to set the time to operate, and other settings. Then, there are some that control other electrical based functions of the dishwasher.
As you can see, there are several different common dishwasher parts and repair issues. It is important to ensure that you become familiar with the repair basics so that you may know which parts are appropriate for repair.
Once you have bought your commercial dishwasher or glass washer, you will need to consider what accessories are essential or desirable for your appliance. It is important to bear in mind the
size and capacity of your machine, as accessories can vary in their dimensions. Plate baskets are available in different sizes, so ensure that you purchase the correct size for your appliances. A 400mm or 450mm stackable basket constructed from hard wearing plastic will cost around £30. A basket of this size contains a plate rack which accepts 14 x 8 inch plates or seven larger plates and has both close spacing for plates and wide spacing for bowls. A 500mm basket will accept a larger number of plates and bowls and costs around £50. Basket lids are useful, as these will keep plastic cups in place during the wash cycle. A lid to fit a standard 500mm x 500mm basket is around £20 and you can expect to pay a further £20 for a drip tray to stand your basket on.
You may need to purchase a commercial dishwasher stand. A stainless steel version is available, standing 600mm high with adjustable feet, and this will accept a full sized front loading machine. Pass through dishwasher tables are another item you may wish to purchase. These are universal tables for use with most pass through commercial dishwashers. Standard sizes are available, although some companies will make sizes to order, for example to fit awkward or tight spaces in your kitchen. A standard table will cost between around £900 to £1,000 and a premium pass through table could set you back as much as £1,500. Dishwasher tables are of stainless steel construction and fit most pass through dishwashers. They are usually sold in pairs and are known as "soiled tables" and "clean tables".
Tables are available left to right or right to left and can be corner or in line fitting. A typical specification for a soiled table is that it is 1200mm long with one full sink and one half sink. There is integral support for a pre wash spray (if this is desired, being an optional extra). Commercial sink waste outlets are provided, along with a bucket fill mixer tap and there is also an under shelf for water softener. The clean table is usually around half the length of the soiled table and contains built-in chemical racks and storage for four baskets.
A catering sink is another essential aid to your commercial dishwasher or glass washer. These can cost in the region of £500 for a single bowl sink and £1,000 for a double bowl sink. If you have the space and the money to spare, you are advised to choose a double bowl sink, as an extra bowl is invaluable for rinsing off. Catering sinks are manufactured from polished heavy duty stainless steel. Sink tops come fitted with either a single or double bowl and left or right hand drainer and mixer taps or individual pillar taps are available according to your choice.
Dishwashers have been in common use since the 1970s and are an essential appliance in many kitchens. Maytag makes dishwashers and is a trusted brand in home appliances. Many common dishwasher
problems can be resolved with a replacement part. Common Maytag dishwasher parts to replace are the water inlet valve, the pump impeller assembly and drain hoses, door gasket, door switch, selector switch, heating element and handle latch.
Water Inlet Valve
# The water inlet valve controls the flow of water into the dishwasher. The water inlet is usually on a cycle for a certain length of time, but if the inlet valve is broken and interferes with the right amount of water for washing, the dishes won't get clean. This part is under $50.
Pump Impeller Assembly
# The pump impeller assembly is the part of the machine that pumps water into the machine for washing and out of the machine after washing. It has an inlet drain hose and an outlet drain hose attached to it. If the hoses crack, split or break, they need to be replaced. If the pump breaks, it needs to be replaced. Maytag sells a pump repair kit with parts and instructions for repairs to the pump impeller assembly.
Door Gasket
# The door gasket can crack and peel away from the door frame over time, causing less pressure inside the machine during use, letting heat and steam escape and causing water leaks. A replacement gasket is simple to apply to add to the useful life of the dishwasher. This is a relatively inexpensive replacement part.
Selector Switch
# The selector switch signals the dishwasher components to engage at the proper time and duration in the washing cycle. If it breaks, the machine will not cycle through its functions properly or at all.
Heating Element
# The heating element heats water to high temperatures for quick and sanitary washing. Dishes won't get as clean without high heat. This is a rather expensive replacement part.
Handle Latch
# The handle latch can break or break off, requiring replacement to operate the machine. Dishwashers won't operate without the door completely closed and the latch mechanism locked.
Other Common Parts
# Other common parts for Maytag dishwashers are knobs and plastic dish rack pieces, which are fairly cheap to replace. Parts like the push button control panels, internal control panels, solenoid, control actuator and control module are more expensive and involved to replace.
